Gaining Success over the Years

Café Bangla, started out in 2003 and by 2008 Ali Hussain had converted this place into a thriving business through innovative creations and excellent customer service. Café Bangla provides a classic combination of indisputable knowledge, unique experience and tradtional values that have gained world wide recognition.

With many culinary competition successes, Café Bangla is undoubtedly one of the jewels of the North East. We are proud to be featured in the Michelin Guide for 2010 and hope to keep up the good work and continue to serve food that's sure to please.

SHORT LISTED FOR BRITISH CURRY AWARDS –NORTH EAST REGION 2011

- Cafe Bangla was short list to 8 venues for the North East in the “Curry Oscars” at the British Curry Awards and then into the final 4, narrowly missing out to the eventual winner.


WINNER OF CURRY LIFE CHEF AWARDS – NATIONAL 2011-12

-Cafe Bangla, was named among winners of Curry Life magazine’s best curry chef awards at a ceremony for 300 guests in London.


RUNNER UP FOR SOUTH TYNESIDE CURRY CHEF -REGIONAL 2011

-An award to determine the best Indian Chef within the South Tyneside area, South Tyneside Council's Food Safety Team has organised this year's North East Curry Chef competition to find the 'best curry' in the region.

TASTE OF BRITAIN CURRY FEST –WINNER OF BRITISH FUSION CHEF OF THE YEAR 2009

- Curry Life paid tribute to Ali Hussain in 2009 for representing Britain against team of Chefs from Bangladesh.

Our Mission

With over 20 years of experience Ali Hussain has enjoyed reinventing Indian cuisine over and over again with the use of different food styles such as French, Italian, Chinese and Thai. Fusing new flavours, dishes and styles pushing the boundaries of food which has no limits. His objective is to consistently learn and develop his knowledge of food, and to be recognised as one of the most creative Indian Chefs in the business. His recipes have appeared in magazines and newspapers throughout the UK and currently he is assessing trainee chefs at college. Born in Bangladesh and having grown up in Europe, he learnt a lot about Indian food and how it is represented, from working in the industry from the tender age of 14.

Through sheer passion, determination and tenacity, Ali Hussain has been placed as one of the best chefs in the UK. Having started within the industry at the tender age of 14, he has worked his way from a kitchen porter to the dizzy heights of international accolades through a philosophy of continuous learning, innovation and development of not only his skills but his dishes.

Having worked in some of the premier Indian restaurants in the North East, Ali Hussain always felt that the industry had to develop and he became a pioneer not only in the region but nationally within the Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant market. Having worked as an executive chef for Sunderland FC, Ali Hussain has had a diverse range of experiences. With awards and accolades as well as being seen as an industry expert, the man behind Café Bangla never disappoints his clientele.
